EYSTER, Daniel, of Adams Co PA

Daniel Eyster was born in Berks Co PA, 18 Aug 1743, son of John George Eyster and his first wife, not Catherine Arentz, who was his second wife. He died in Hanover Co PA, 14 Sep 1798.[1]

Daniel married in Pennsylvania ca 1770, Elizabeth Reiff, daughter of  Peter and Margaretta (Smith) Reiff.[2] Elizabeth was born 22 Mar 1747 and died Hanover PA, 21 Aug 1835.[3]

Daniel was a Captain of Militia of Heidelberg Township, York Co PA in 1777.[4]

After Daniel’s death, his widow’s census records continues:

1800 Adams Co PA, Heidelberg Twp, p 519, Widow Eyster: 01200/02101. The three sons were probably Daniel, William and Jacob; daughters were Anna Maria, Magdalena, Susannah or possibly Elizabeth, who would have been 25 and never married.

1810 Adams Co PA, p 136. Elizabeth “Heyser,” 00110/00001/00. Jacob and Willaiam were still at home

1820 Adams Co PA, just above McSherrytown, Conewago Twp, p 64. Elizabeth Eyster, widow, 000000/00001/00. She was alone.

The children of Daniel and Elizabeth (Reiff) Eyster were:

i. Hannah EYSTER. Born on 28 Mar 1771 in PA. Hannah died on 21 Oct 1852; she was 81. Hannah married John George ETZLER. Born on 15 Jul 1764. John George died in May or Jun 1850; he was 85. They had the following children:

                        i.            John George III (1797-1860)

                        ii.            Mary Magdalene (-1815)

                        iii.            Catherine (1795-1879)

                        iv.            Hannah

                        v.            George (1800-1844)

 

ii.  Samuel EYSTER. Born on 29 Apr 1772 in PA. Samuel died in PA on 26 Apr 1795; he was 22. Samuel married Margaretta –?–. They had one child:

                        i.            Samuel (1794-1815)

 

iii. Catherine EYSTER. Born on 18 May 1773 in PA. Catherine died in PA on 10 Jul 1795; she was 22. Catherine married John YOUNG. Born say ca 1770 in PA. John died on 23 Apr 1844; he was 74. They had the following children:

                        i.            Samuel P

                        ii.            John

 

iv. Elizabeth EYSTER. Born and died on 22 Dec 1774 in PA.

v. Elizabeth EYSTER. Born on 2 Dec 1775 in PA. Elizabeth died in PA on 15 Mar 1790; she was 14.

 

vi. Esther EYSTER. Born on 1 Mar 1777 in PA. Esther died on 20 Aug 1845; she was 68. Esther married William D LEPPER. Born in prob 1770s. William D died on 5 Apr 1842; he was 72. They had one child:

                        i.            William D

 

vii. Daniel EYSTER. Born on 16 Aug 1778 in PA. Daniel died in McSherrystown, Adams Co PA, on 17 Apr 1840; he was 61. Daniel married Eve –?–. Born say ca 1780. 1830 Conewago Twp, Adams Co PA: Daniel Oister: 00100001/00001001. There were a John Oester and an Elizabeth Oaster in this township in 1840.

 

viii.  Williamina EYSTER. Born on 27 Dec 1779 in PA. Williamina died in PA on 27 Jan 1780; she was an infant.

 

ix. Anna Maria EYSTER. Born on 16 Dec 1780 in PA. Anna Maria died on 27 Jan 1845; she was 64. Anna Maria married Jonas Robert REBERT, or Reber. Born on 29 Aug 1777 in Manchester Twp, York Co PA. Jonas Robert died in Conewago Township, Adams Co PA, on 20 Jul 1845; he was 67. They had the following children:

                        i.            Henry (1808-)

                        ii.            Samuel (1810-)

                        iii.            Charles (1814-1869)

                        iv.            Jonas (1816-)

                        v.            Edward (1823-1888)

                        vi.            William (1823-1894)

 

x. William EYSTER. Born on 4 Mar 1783 in PA. William died in New Franklin OH, on 20 Sep 1854; he was 71. Buried in New Franklin OH. On 18 Oct 1808 when William was 25, he married Juliana HINKLE in Hanover, York Co PA. Born on 28 Oct 1789 in York Co PA. They had the following children:

                        i.            Jesse (1812-1869)

                        ii.            William H (1816-1854)

                        iii.            Matilda (1821-1864)

                        iv.            Caroline (1830-1894)

                        v.            Sarah (1820-)

                        vi.            Samuel (1820-)

 

xi. Anna Magdalena EYSTER. Born on 16 Jan 1785 in PA. Anna Magdalena died in prob Hanover, York Co PA, on 28 Apr 1861; she was 76. Buried in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Hanover, York Co PA. Anna Magdalena married Michael NEWMAN, or Neiman. Born on 5 Mar 1776. Michael died in prob Hanover, York Co PA, on 29 Mar 1842; he was 66. They had the following children:

                        i.            Elizabeth (1807-)

                        ii.            Maria (1811-)

 

xii. Susanna EYSTER. Born on 23 Jan 1787 in PA. Susanna died in prob Hanover, York Co PA, on 9 Feb 1865; she was 78. Buried in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Hanover, York Co PA. In 1807 when Susanna was 19, she married Andrew FLICKINGER. Born on 19 Apr 1779. Andrew died on 23 Jan 1844; he was 64. They had the following children:

xiii. Jacob EYSTER. Born on 28 Nov 1789 in Hanover PA. Jacob died in Bendersville, Adams Co PA, on 22 Oct 1839; he was 49. Buried in Bendersville PA. 1790 census: York Co PA. Daniel Oyster, 2/3/6. 1800 census: Adams Co PA, Heidelberg Twp, p 519, Widow Eyster: 01200/02101. 1810 census: poss Adams Co PA, p 136. Elizabeth “Heyser,” 00110/00001/00. 1820 census: Adams Co PA, McSherry Twp, p 65: Jacob Eyster, 201110/20010. 1830 census: Adams Co PA, Menallen Twp, p 82: Jacob Oister, 101101/221000[1] [possible erasure at wife’s ag. 1790 census: York Co PA. Daniel Oyster, 2[blurred]1[poss blur]. In 1813/1814 when Jacob was 23, he married Catherine WENTZ, daughter of John Frederick WENTZ & Anna Maria Magdalena –?–, in Adams Co PA. Born on 9 Feb 1794 in PA. Catherine died in Bendersville, Adams Co PA, on 4 Jan 1855; she was 60. They had the following children:

Anita Eyster consistently spells some girls’ names as Susanna, Elisabeth and Catharine.

Her last name is carved on her tombstone at Hanover PA. Her father is not proven, but probable. Daniel Eyster and Peter Reiff lived in the same twp, Oley in Berks Co PA; no other Reiff lived near there. Peter’s widow Anna Mar(g)aretha Reiffen was the sponsor for one of the children of Daniel and Elizabeth.
