do you have any data on William P Gossett born 1786 Virginia and died Hickman Co., Tn 1864. He married Elizabeth Barnhill in Rutherford/Bedford Co Tennessee about 1810. He had sons Wilson, Meredith, James Perry, dau Elizabeth and 2 other daus.

It doesn’t appear as if my last post went through so I’m re-sending with a little more information.

If you’ll write me at my work address, jeff.gossett@gapac.com, I may be able to help. We currently have a big DNA project going on and have learned much.

We have two men who claim descent from Cavin who have been tested. Unfortunately, neither of them are closely related to the vast majority of Gossetts in the study. So, if they are indeed descended from Cavin as they believe, Cavin most certainly was not a Gossett. He could have been Gassett or Gussett.

Also, the Gossetts in Franklin CO, NC were actually Goswicks. That family is extremely well-documented by Key Goswick Kennemore.

I’m going to compare the Cavin descendents’ DNA results to the couple of men who are in the Goswick DNA study to see if there is a connection.

Kathy, Do you have any knowledge of the Gossetts in the part of Smith Co, TN, that became DeKalb Co? Earliest names are Abraham, Nancy, and Elizabeth that show up on the Salem Baptist Church records in 1812. Others are added in 1817: Bethanea, John; 1820: David, Elizabeth; 1824: German, Sally; 1831:Nancy, Virginia, William, John, Eleanor, Polly; and 1832: Washington, Bethell, before the county changed. Then after the county changed in 1837, more are found in 1849: Virginia [I think she is mine]; and 1851: W.J. [Virginia's brother].

My Virginia A. Gossett married John Turner, son of Francis Turner Sr., who was born in and lived for a time in Patrick Co, VA. His father is James Isaiah Turner. Virginia had a brother William J. Gosset. Their parents are unknown to me.

My great grandfather was Jesse Frank Propes son of Wilson Rumsey “Rum” propes. My grandmother is Elsie Jordan daughter of Jesse Frank and Annie May Propes. I have photos of Wilson Rum Propes son of James Propes and Lucinda Hatfield. My grandmother might know where Rum was buried if that is what you are searching for?

hey my name is kent murrell. I have been searching for my great-great grandfather for years. I got his death certificate last year. Since then I have asked around about the coral hill cemetery, but no one has’t heard of it or they can’t tell me where it is. His name is Wilson Rum Propes.I would greatly appreciate it if you could help me out. His wife’s name is Minnie Propes but her death certificate says that she was buried in the Charles Smith cemetery but no one knows about it neither. It is supposed to be in Barren County Kentucky. Thanks!
